Friday Favorites: Quality Times

In addition to the linky, I'm taking this opportunity each week to write a little bit about a my favorite moments from the past week. I hope you'll feel inspired to leave a comment telling me about your favorite thing(s) that happened this week, too!

These are a few of my favorite things:

I made a delicious grain-free coffee cake for Daniel for his birthday. Last week, I mentioned that I'd likely make another pan of brownies for his birthday cake, but then I remembered that Daniel had been asking about coffee cake ever since he got a free sample at the grocery store several weeks ago. I searched Pinterest and found a coffee cake recipe that looked easy enough, and sure thing—it was great! Daniel enjoyed blowing out his candles and all three of us enjoyed sharing a treat together before bed.

I completed a few sewing projects in the past week, which feels great! I made a cupcake shirt for Daniel for his birthday (which you can also see in his favorite things interview). I also finished a skirt project (for myself) that I'd been putting off for a while, among other things. I had a lot of fun learning new techniques with my sewing machine and taking the time to work through the awkwardness of creating new muscle memory. It's so satisfying to me to express my creativity through my sewing and crafting, so I'm grateful I had some more time to focus on it lately.

Daniel and I had a really lovely snuggle session outside in the hammock one night this week. Jaymz and I had been talking about how there's a sort of "sweet spot" in Daniel's day—before bedtime, but after he's had his nightly dose of melatonin—when he's really chilled out, feeling sweet, and just generally extra-lovely to be around. I was so happy to be able to maximize on that sweet hour with him outside in the beautiful weather: rocking and cuddling before it was time for bed. These are the moments I want to hold onto forever.

Daniel and I played outside for a long time after nap on Tuesday. In fact, we played outside so long that Jaymz came home from work before we were ready to go back inside! Daniel led us through several pretend games, but my favorite was when he declared, "I'm a hungry dinosaur!" and then proceeded to eat large amounts of raw parsley directly from the plant for the next twenty minutes or so. He was, indeed, acting like a very hungry herbivorous dinosaur. We made sure to make a big dinner after that to help satiate this little dinosaur's big appetite.
