About SnapdragonFortress

SnapdragonFortress is run by three sisters, Sarah, Robin, and Claire, the oldest of a family of six kids who grew up running barefoot in their two-and-a-half acre wooded backyard. Inspired by a childhood full of adventure, imagination, and a love of nature, these three talented sisters create beautiful handmade toys out of natural wood and wool.

SnapdragonFortress features adorable knit wool toys and dress-up items, beautiful Waldorf dollswooden toys and teethers, and more!

I worked with Sarah (the head of the shop) for this review, and she was simply lovely to communicate with. Sarah is a homeschooling stay-at-home mother to a two-year-old daughter, and she's passionate about natural parenting and ecologically-conscious living. When she's not busy parenting her little one or creating beautiful handmade playthings, Sarah enjoys oil painting, writing young adult fiction, and keeping up with her balcony garden.

About the Kitten

Sarah sent us the sweetest little knit kitten made of charcoal grey wool yarn with a purple collar around its neck. Daniel loves animals (and he has a forever friend in our cat Eddie) so he was really excited to see this little kitty when I pulled it out of the box for him. In fact, it has been pretty difficult for me to get a clear photo of the kitten after Daniel got his hands on it—he's been playing with it a lot!

I really like this sweet kitten from SnapdragonFortress. I can tell it is well-made and it has so far been durable enough to stand up to the wear and tear of being played with by Daniel. The wool is soft and the kitten is cuddly. It's just the right size for little hands to play pretend with it, or to tuck into my purse when we're heading out of the house and want to have a familiar item handy.

I really like the details of the eyes and ears, and the collar is such a cute touch to an already adorable plaything. I also appreciate that it's made entirely of wool (both yarn and stuffing), and wool is an amazing all-natural fiber. It's important to me that when Daniel puts this toy up to his face to cuddle or talk to it, he's not inhaling a bunch of chemicals in the process. That knowledge and peace of mind is of great value to me.

I also love simple toys like this kitten because they foster imaginative and pretend play. Child-led imaginative play is so important, and it's something I think is overlooked and undervalued a lot with the prevalence of kids' television programs and electronic toys with lots of bells and whistles.

This wool kitten is an adorable little toy, perfect for kids from babyhood through school-age. It is sturdy and I expect that it could last through being played with by several children if it was handed down through siblings or gifted to friends. This wool kitten would make an excellent gift for any playful little one on your holiday list!
