Moorea Malatt is offering 10 readers a giveaway of Whip it Out: Songs for Breastfeeding, a value of $13. In homage to breastfeeding mothers everywhere, songwriter Moorea Malatt produced Whip It Out: Songs for Breastfeeding in early 2011. The collection of original lullabies and comedic songs is meant to soothe and relax moms and babies and entertain any older siblings who are listening.

From one of our reviewers, Jennifer at Hybrid Rasta Mama:

Whip It Out: Songs for Breastfeeding is a hilarious yet soothing collection of songs dedicated to all things breastfeeding. When I received the album, I immediately corralled my toddler, cranked up the volume, and had quite a fun afternoon giggling over many of the songs. Moorea has a wonderful sense of humor which pairs well with the general tone of the album. In addition to the lighter side of the CD, Moorea tackles some tougher mama moments including difficulties during pregnancy and postpartum depression. From "Booby Snack" (about breastfeeding a person who has teeth), to "Miracle Baby" (a celebration of overcoming a difficult conception or pregnancy), to "Deep December" (encouragement through postpartum blues), to "Sleepy Sheepy" (a nap-time genius for all) this album has something for everyone, for every stage of nurturing. My personal favorite is "The Nakie." It is fitting in that my toddler loves naked time!

Moorea has a soothing voice, infused with rich tones making the songs very easy and enjoyable to listen to. She has crafted very clever lyrics that she pairs perfectly with both upbeat, high energy melodies along with more subdued, lullaby style melodies. There is honestly not a single song on her album that I did not enjoy. My only gripe is that I did not have this at the beginning of my breastfeeding relationship with my daughter. It really would have served as a great distraction and support during those really tough early days.

To illustrate just how much fun this CD is, take a moment to watch the companion video to the song "Booby Snack":

If you are pregnant and plan on breastfeeding, if you are currently breastfeeding, if you are entering the weaning stage of breastfeeding, even if you are formula feeding, I guarantee that you will enjoy and giggle over this CD. There really is a song on here for every mama!

From our other reviewer, Amy at Anktangle:

Moorea Malatt Moorea Malatt's CD Whip it Out: Songs for Breastfeeding is an incredibly positive affirmation of nursling and nursing mama, of body and bonding, and also of family. The songs are catchy, upbeat, playful, and easy to remember, while also being heartfelt and evocative. Moorea beautifully sings her love for her baby and family, something any parent can relate to deeply on a personal level. This CD is definitely baby-friendly, and the songs are simple enough to learn to sing to your own little one.

I enjoyed listening to the CD the first time all the way through with both my son Daniel and my partner Jaymz. We giggled to the clever lyrics and danced along to the catchy tunes. Daniel clapped and danced through a couple of his favorite songs of the collection: "Booby Snack" and "Sleepy Sheepy." Whenever Daniel claps to music, we know he really loves it (and he doesn't do it for just anything)! When the CD was finished, my partner remarked that he would enjoy learning several of the songs to sing to Daniel, and I agreed. There's just nothing like bonding with your child with song, and this CD is a perfect tool for learning a few new songs you and your little one can enjoy together. Moorea's voice is sweet and clear, and I could tell she has a lot of fun making music.

Since that first time listening to the CD, we've enjoyed playing it on shuffle when we're having playtime. Daniel still has his favorites, and I'm starting to have a few I turn to first for certain situations. I'm enjoying learning the lyrics to these songs and having this as another way to play and interact with my son during the day.

The positive message about breastfeeding is prevalent throughout the CD, but I didn't find it overwhelming at all. There's a song "Bottles Up! Bottoms Up!" which outlines and positively affirms various feeding techniques, acknowledging that every family and baby is unique and no feeding method is the right choice for every family. Several songs reference nursing an older baby or toddler, which, as the mother of a 17-month-old nursling, is very nice to hear supported and celebrated in song.

This CD would make a great gift for any special parent in your life!

  8. One of our favorite lullabies is Never Alone (http://youtu.be/DfMxm8SNOic) I sang it to all 3 of my boys. I started singing it while I was pregnant with my first. It was on a Winnie the Pooh soundtrack I had and I used to play it for him (with headphones on my belly) so when he was born, it always soothed him.
